Job Overview
We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Music & Vocal Instructor to join our Out of School Time artistic team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in singing, playing acoustic instruments like the ukulele, guitar with experience in music teaching and a commitment to fostering a love for music in students of all ages. This position involves teaching music theory, vocal techniques, and instrumental skills while creating an engaging learning environment that encourages creativity and self-expression. We work in partnership with under-served communities to advance music education with youth as essential to a complete education in the greater Austin region.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Music Education, Music, or a related field preferred.
Experience in leading a choir to sing or other forms of piano or guitar is a plus but not required.
At minimum 1-2 years of teaching music in a classroom setting is preferred.
Strong knowledge of lesson planning techniques and classroom management strategies.
Familiarity with special education practices is advantageous for accommodating diverse learning needs.
Proficiency in playing one or more musical instruments; Piano is highly desirable.
Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage students effectively.
A passion for teaching music and nurturing the artistic talents of all ages 2nd-12th.
Duties
Develop and implement creative lessons and weekly plans that align with music curriculum standards and cater to the diverse needs of students.
Educate students on various musical concepts, including rhythm, melody, harmony, and choir for 2-part singing.
Organize music classes for different age groups (2nd-12th), held one day per week at various Austin ISD or cultural center sites in Austin, TX. Class sessions are no longer than 1-2 hours; older group sessions are 2 hours.
Plan and execute semester-based performances, recitals, or showcases to display student progress and talent.
The work schedule is structured as 1-2 days per week, aligning with the 12-week Fall and Spring semesters and the Austin ISD school calendar. Older groups' classes are held at a cultural center in downtown Austin.Join us in shaping the future of our students through the power of music!
